Attacking the BJP over the on-going row over the film Udta Punjab, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday wondered whether the word Punjab would be also removed from the national anthem.

Mr Kejriwal, whose party is looking to make inroads in the Punjab in the upcoming Assembly polls, claimed that by censoring the movie themed on drug abuse, the BJP-Akali Dal combine has “accepted defeat.”

“I was seeing this on social media that Jana-Gan-Mana-Adhinayaka Jaya He Bharata-Bhagya-Vidhata Punjab-Sindh...So will they remove word Punjab from everywhere. If words like Punjab, Ludhiana are being asked to remove, then filmmaking would come to a halt,” he said.

“The way censorship is being done, the BJP, Narendra Modi, and Akali Dal have accepted their defeat in Punjab. Now the worry is how big would be their defeat. Will they be reduced to three seats like in Delhi They are worried if the reality is shown through the film then it should not be case that they are reduced to zero seats. The cuts (have been suggested by the censor board) that Punjab should be omitted...”

Attacking the BJP-RSS combine, Mr Kejriwal said ever since the party came to power at the Centre, it will decide who will eat, wear, talk what and which films people should watch.

“This is a very dangerous for the country,” Mr Kejriwal said. Censor board chief Pahlaj Nihalani has been facing heat on multiple fronts in the escalating row over Udta Punjab with demands for his sacking over his allegation that the film’s maker Anurag Kashyap may have taken money from the AAP to make the drug-themed Bollywood film.
