Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “shielding” BJP MP Maheish Girri, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday demanded that the BJP politician must be arrested in connection with the murder of NDMC official M.M. Khan. Mr Girri, meanwhile, continued his indefinite hungerstrike outside the official residence of Mr Kejriwal, demanding that the AAP chief prove his allegations.
The BJP MP had asked Mr Kejriwal to either prove the allegations against him or “resign” from the post of chief minister. In a tweet, Mr Kejriwal demanded that Mr Girri should be arrested. “He shud be arrested n interrogated by Modi police in MM Khan murder case. Modi police shielding him,” the chief minister said.
Lashing out at Mr Girri over the protest outside his residence, Mr Kejriwal alleged this was the BJP’s way to seek criminal justice and demanded that the police should investigate the “relation” between the BJP MP and the Connaught Hotel owner Ramesh Kakkar, who is a prime accused in the murder case. He accused the BJP of staging a “drama” by holding the dharna outside his residence.
The chief minister alleged that the police has been under a lot of pressure from the BJP not to investigate the role of Mr Girri in the case. Lieutenant-governor Najeeb Jung had on May 12 forwarded a letter written by Mr Girri to the NDMC chairman, in which he had allegedly demanded the removal of Khan as the estate officer, he told reporters here.
Mr Kejriwal alleged that four days before Khan’s murder, Mr Girri had approached the Mr Jung with the hotel owner’s letter for “removal” of Khan from proceedings in a case pertaining to the licence violation.
“Do we’ve an open debate on murder cases Is this the BJP’s way to seek criminal justice Is it the BJP’s criminal justice system to allow those who have murdered to stage dharna outside CM’s residence and thereafter, prominent leaders of the BJP reach there to support them,” he said.
If the Delhi government had control over the police, Mr Girri and Mr Tanwar would have been arrested in the murder case, he said. “If Del police were wid us, Mahesh Giri n Karan Singh Tanwar wud have been arrested and interrogated by now in MM Khan murder case. Let’s decide once and for all, who is dharna party of India (sic),” Mr Kejriwal tweeted.
