Arvind Kejriwal’s sewa an eyewash: BJP

Even as chief minister Arvind Kejriwal offered a voluntary religious repentance service at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, the Delhi BJP got another chance to lash out at the AAP leader. The BJP leaders said that Ashish Khetan had insulted scriptures of all religions, but Mr Kejriwal chose to repent only at Shri Harmandir Sahib just to appease the Sikhs ahead of next years Punjab Assembly polls. The Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay and national secretary Sardar R.P. Singh said that the self-styled repentance service by Mr Kejriwal at Amritsar is nothing but another case of melodrama.
Mr Upadhyay said today’s drama at Amritsar was to fool the Punjab voters the way he deceived the people of Delhi before the 2015 election. “If Mr Kejriwal really repents his party colleague Ashish Khetan’s misdeed of comparing his party’s youth manifesto to religious scriptures like the Gita, Bible, Quran and the Guru Granth Sahib, he should have expelled him from the party,” said Mr Upadhyay. Vijender Gupta, Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, said that the attempts by AAP supremo Mr Kejriwal and Mr Khetan to seek pardon for showing disrespect to the Guru Granth Sahib and hurting the religious sentiments of the Sikh community is nothing but an act of political showmanship devoid of repentance and feelings seeking forgiveness for the sacrilege committed by them. “They only washed the already cleaned utensils for five minutes. The real process of cleansing was not really undertaken. The deeply religious act became just a political drama,” said Mr Gupta. Mr Singh said that it is a matter of shame that just for cheap publicity Mr Kejriwal went to the Guru Ghar and washed the already cleaned utensils and swept a clean floor. “If Mr Kejriwal was really repentant then he should have known that under the Sikh tenets the punishment for disrespect towards Guru Granth Sahib and Guru Sahib is decided at Shri Akal Takht Sahib and he should have presented himself there,” he said.
