Condemning Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal for using objectionable words against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP on Tuesday said in doing so the CM has insulted the country and its people, especially those in Delhi who elected him with a huge mandate. The BJP also described as an exercise in “cheap publicity and propaganda” the one-man commission of inquiry’s communication to the NSA, in which it has sought names of officers to be part of its probe in the alleged irregularities in DDCA affairs. The party also accused former solicitor-general Gopal Subramanium, who is heading the commission, of working at the behest of the AAP government.

The BJP attack came soon after Mr Kejriwal stood by his words against the PM, whom he called a “coward” and went on to say that if someone shoots through someone else’s shoulders, they are cowardly.

Charging Mr Kejriwal with “mastering” the art of speaking lies and committing the “sin” of using “bad words” against the Prime Minister, the BJP said he should be prepared to go to jail for making false allegations against Union finance minister Arun Jaitley in the DDCA issue.

“You are an elected CM. You have crossed the ‘lakshman rekha’ by using objectionable words against the Prime Minister. You are a master in speaking lies and are a ‘lying machine’. You should remain within limits and respect democracy,” BJP national secretary Shrikant Sharma said. He also accused Mr Kejriwal of trying to deflect media attention by speaking lies all the time and asked him to remain within the “limits of democracy” as BJP will not stoop to his level.

Mr Sharma also attacked him for adopting the “habit of moving on wrong side” and not wanting to work in Delhi.

“You don’t want to work, only create a hungama because you want media attention. But don’t insult the people of Delhi and waste public funds. We request you to read the Constitution that was given to you by the President,” the BJP leader said, adding that people of Delhi are upset and angry and are repenting for having elected him.

The BJP leader said his party has faith in democracy and in the people of Delhi who are watching the work of both Centre and Delhi government and asked Mr Kejriwal to give results instead of earning cheap media publicity.
