Expressing shock at the Union Cabinet’s recommendation for imposition of President’s rule in Arunachal Pradesh, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday termed the decision as “murder” of the country’s Constitution. “Union Cab recommending Prez rule in Arunachal shocking. Murder of Constitution on Rep D eve. BJP lost elections. Now acquiring power through back door,” Mr Kejirwal tweeted.

The Union Cabinet on Sunday recommended imposition of President’s Rule in Arunachal Pradesh, which has been going through political turmoil. Chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Cabinet met on Sunday morning and recommended imposition of President’s rule in the hill state, official sources said.

Arunachal Pradesh was rocked by a political crisis on December 16 last year as 21 rebel Congress legislators joined hands with 11 of BJP and two independents to ‘impeach’ Assembly Speaker Nabam Rebia at a makeshift venue, in a move branded as “illegal and unconstitutional” by the Speaker.

Terming the Cabinet’s decision as “unconstitutional” and a blot on India’s democracy, the AAP appealed to democratic forces to oppose such “dictatorial” moves of the BJP-led government. The AAP said the Cabinet’s decision would definitely get defeated in the Rajya Sabha.
