Another right-wing activist is arrested
A day after self-styled chief of right-wing organisation Hindu Sena Vishnu Gupta was put under preventive arrest for calling the PCR about beef being served in the Kerala House, another activist was arrested in connection with the matter on Thursday. Identified as Mohit Rajput (25), he was booked under Sections 107/151 of CrPC and was sent to four-day judicial custody.
The police sources said that Mohit was called for questioning on Thursday morning at Connaught Place police station and after interrogation he was arrested. Mohit is a resident of Laxmi Nagar area in east Delhi.
The police added that from Gupta’s interrogation it was learnt that another Hindu rights activist Mohit Rajput was present with him outside Kerala House when the former had made the call on Monday evening. “They had tried to create a ruckus and add fuel to the matter while lodging protest outside the Kerala House,” said the senior police officer, adding, “A police team then entered the premises and probed the matter.”
The incident had sparked a political row on Tuesday after Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy condemned the police action, terming it as a “highly-objectionable raid.” Delhi police commissioner Bhim Sain Bassi has been defending his men’s actions as being completely lawful. He said on Tuesday that the police team reached the spot to maintain law and order.
