The incident took place at around 12 am when Mehtab, a resident of Chawri Bazar, was shot at by four men who were on their motorcycles. He was immediately rushed to the hospital and is reported out of danger. Prima facie, the whole incident appears to be an outcome of personal enmity.

According to the family members of the victim, the accused namely Rashid, Imran, Bittu and Shahnawaz, had earlier also tried to kill Mehtab as they had some property related issues. The police is now trying to arrest the accused.

Earlier, a 60-year-old owner of a restaurant in Lajpat Nagar was shot at following a heated argument with a group of customers over payment of a bill. The eatery owner succumbed to injuries in the early hours on Tuesday.

Vasudeo, alias Pappu, owner of an eatery in Lajpat Nagar 3, sustained two bullets in his chest on Monday night. He was rushed to a hospital for surgery and died around 3 am on Tuesday, a senior official said.

A case of murder under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the unidentified assailants at the Lajpat Nagar police station.

The incident took place between 10 and 10.30 pm on Monday night when three men had come to the eatery in a car with a UP registration number. They had their dinner there and tried to leave without paying the bill.

When the eatery staff stopped them, they got into an argument with the staff. When Vasudeo tried to intervene, one of them allegedly pulled out a gun and shot four rounds there, of which two bullets hits Vasudeo on his chest. The accused fled the scene by the time police reached the spot.

A part of the car’s registration number has been noted with the help of CCTV grabs obtained from the spot.

The police has acquired a list from the transport department in Uttar Pradesh with details on the same. Efforts are on to track down the accused at the earliest, the official added.
