The main accused and mastermind of former Najafgarh MLA Bharat Singh’s murder last year in March, Udaiveer Singh alias Kale, lodged in the Tihar jail, died of a heart attack on Wednesday.

According to the jail authorities, the 42-year-old undertrial had complained of uneasiness and difficulty in breathing at around 12.20 pm and Udaiveer Singh, a resident of Dicha-on Kalan in Najafgarh, was attended to by a local doctor. After the check-up, Udaiveer Singh was referred to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where he died of a heart attack.

Udaiveer Singh was arrested along with three sharp-shooters by the Delhi police crime branch for the murder of the former Najafgarh MLA Bharat Singh. Bharat Singh’s brother Krishan Pehalwan had killed Udaiveer Singh’s father and three other relatives in a wedding party in Haryana in 2002. The rivalry between the two gangs had been festering for many years.

“Lodged in Jail Number 1 since July 18, 2015, Udaiveer Singh complained of uneasiness and difficulty in breathing. He was attended to by a doctor and was taken to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where at around 12.45 pm he died of a heart attack,” said Mukesh Prasad, additional inspector-general, Tihar Jail.

Meanwhile, police officers investigating the matter said that since Udaiveer Singh was a heart patient and had had a bypass surgery a few years back, he was shifted to DDU Hospital four days back. However, when his condition improved, he was shifted back into the prison on Tuesday.
