ACB registers case against DCW chief

After two hours of questioning, the anti-corruption branch registered a case against Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal for alleged irregularities in recruitment in the women’s panel.

After two hours of questioning, the anti-corruption branch registered a case against Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal for alleged irregularities in recruitment in the women’s panel. Ms Maliwal has been given a week’s time to respond to 27 queries by the ACB.

Terming the FIR as “farzi,” the DCW chief said that attempts are being made to create “communication gap” between the Delhi government and the Centre on the issue of women safety. She also said that the probe is an attempt to “silence” the panel that has been raising a lot of questions and will not act as “deterrant” for the panel and her. “A case under sections 13(D) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 409 (criminal breach of trust) and 120B (punishment of criminal conspiracy) of the IPC has been registered against Maliwal,” a senior ACB official said.

The ACB had taken up the probe on a complaint by former DCW chief Barkha Shukla Singh, who alleged that several AAP supporters were given plum posts in the women’s panel. Ms Singh had listed the names of 85 people who, she claimed, got jobs “without requisite credentials”. The ACB had been probing the matter for the last two-three months and based on the questioning of Ms Maliwal’s employees, it was found that due procedure “was not followed in appointments,” said the officer.
