ABVP: Bail order vindication of stand
Right-wing students group Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Thursday said it stands vindicated after the Delhi high court’s ruling on JNU Students’ Union president Kanhaiya Kumar’s bail plea. The RSS-affiliated group also alleged that its members are being targeted in the JNU hostels. Demanding rustication of eight student who have been debarred academically pending investigation by a varsity-appointed committee, the ABVP supporters protested outside the JNU administrative block.
ABVP member and JNUSU joint secretary Saurabh Kumar Sharma said his organisation members are being continuously witch-hunted, traumatised and victimised by the Left cadre as well as some teachers for their, so-called “pro-India stand.”
“Incidents at Jhelum (last week) with our members Koyna and Shipra are a clear proof of such behaviour. In view of these, we demand from administration, teachers and JNUSU to stop witch-hunting, victimisation, stigmatisation and trauma inflicted upon our cadre by some teachers as well as Left cadre,” said Mr Sharma.
The ABVP also demanded that JNU professor Nivedita Menon must step down from her post for her remarks on “India’s imperialism and exploitation in Kashmir” as well as the “ridiculing and trivilisation of the martyrdom and dedication of the Indian Army as mere employment” during her lecture at the Administration Block. “This is shameful. She must be suspended for such remarks. Such academic legitimisation of the terrorism and violence along with ridicule of Army must be criticised,” added Mr Sharma.
Referring to observation made by the Delhi HC while granting bail to Mr Kumar, Mr Sharma said that as joint secretary of students’ union he demands that the JNUSU president, vice-president Shehla Rashid and general secretary Rama Naga must resign for their support to such anti-national activities as exercise of freedom of speech.
“The high-powered inquiry must recommend the rustication of eight students and there are many other students who were raising anti national slogan so the inquiry should be held against them also,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Brigade on Thursday afternoon managed to enter the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus with a tricolour. “We met the vice-chancellor and told him that Friday morning we will hoist the national flag between 4.30 and 5 am,” a member of the “charitable trust” told reporters, referring to the ministry of human resources development’s decision to hoist national flags in all the Central universities.
