AAP raises NDMC pension scam issue

Citing a Central Information Commission (CIC) order pointing out irregularities in the pension scheme of the civic bodies, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday accused BJP-ruled municipal corporations of a pension scam running into hundreds of crores of rupees.
The AAP challenged the BJP and its Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, to make clear their stand on the MCD pension scam revealed in the latest order of the CIC. “In this order shocking details about massive irregularities in pension schemes run by North Delhi Municipal Corporation have come to light involving the BJP councillor of Rohini area and wife of Mr Gupta, Mrs Shobha Vijender,” the AAP said in a statement.
Information commissioner Sridhar Acharyulu directed Shobha Vijender and mayor Ravinder Gupta to explain how an ineligible applicant was recommended for pension in glaring violation of income norms. “Such incidents should lead us to introduce systems to bring representatives of people, including area municipal councillors or legislators, under the ambit of transparency law to make them accountable and answerable to the people,” said Mr Acharyulu.
The AAP asked Mr Gupta to explain the role of his wife, councillor Shobha Vijendra. “Will Mr Gupta demand an independent inquiry into matter Will Mrs Gupta resign If Mr and Mrs Gupta don’t resign, will PM Narendra Modi sack them to save the face of his party,” asked the AAP.
