Keeping the row over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s educational degrees alive, the AAP on Monday invited BJP president Amit Shah and Union finance minister Arun Jaitley for a joint inspection of Mr Modi’s graduation degree from Delhi University. A delegation of AAP leaders will make a fresh effort to inspect the records on Tuesday morning, in pursuance of their right to information applications.
“The AAP invites Mr Shah and Mr Jaitley to come along and have a joint inspection so that the matter can be settled once and for all. BJP president Amit Shah and finance Arun Jaitley on Monday put before the media photocopies of a forged degree and marksheets in a desperate attempt to wriggle out of the ongoing controversy regarding Prime Minister’s educational qualifications. Some of the documents put forth were the same that are doing the rounds in a section of the media, whose veracity was highly doubtful,” the AAP said.
The ruling party reiterated that there is no record related to Narendra Damodardas Modi in the Delhi University between 1975 and 1978. “Since there is a CIC order to show all records to Arvind Kejriwal, then why has the DU sealed all records What is the fear in throwing open all records to clear the air. What is the Delhi University trying to hide if there actually is a degree A BJP press conference followed sealing of all records at DU Why Was it done as a part of conspiracy to hide the truth,” the AAP questioned.
The party alleged that Mr Shah had presented the same degree published in some newspapers and he had nothing new to say. The AAP had challenged the Delhi University to check the veracity of this degree, but the varsity has been consistently failing to do so, it said.
Amid allegations that DU has sealed the records following the controversy, vice-chancellor Yogesh Tyagi said he has not issued any such orders.
Asked about the veracity of the degrees, copies of which were released by BJP President Amit Shah on Monday, Mr Tyagi did not comment.
“We have received an order from the Central Information Commission (CIC) and we will respond to it after checking our records. As far as sealing of records is concerned I have not issued any such orders and if the university department dealing with RTIs has done in its own capacity, I am not updated about it,” Mr Tyagi told a news agency.
