The row over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s fake degree escalated on Wednesday as the Aam Aadmi Party targeted the Delhi University for “hiding facts” and authenticating a “fake marksheet.” A delegation of AAP leaders, who visited the university to meet vice-chancellor Yogesh Kumar Tyagi, claimed that he is “living under pressure and fear” and could not vouch for the “authenticity” of Mr Modi’s B.A. degree and marksheets.
After being denied access to Mr Modi’s graduation degree from DU despite the CIC order, AAP leader Sanjay Singh said that the vice-chancellor was “visibly terrified” during their hour-long meeting due to the pressure from the Centre. “Our suspicion about the fake degree of Modiji has deepened. We were given an appointment at 3 pm today by the university. We had a meeting with the vice-chancellor for almost an hour, but he refused to allow us to inspect the degree certificates. He did not even show the certificates to us.”
It was evident from his words that he is living under pressure and fear, the AAP leader claimed. “He told us, ‘You please understand how much pressure is there on such issues.’”
Alleging that the university’s attitude was dismissive despite the Central Information Commissi-oner’s order, Mr Singh said that similar inspections had been allowed in the past.
“When we asked to inspect the degree, the vice-chancellor told us to visit the CPIO. The vice-chancellor could not vouch for authenticity of Mr Modi’s degree and marksheets. The vice-chancellor also said we should understand the pressure from the top. He was visibly terrified. He did not even support the university registrar’s claim about Mr Modi’s degree and marksheets,” Mr Singh said.
Questioning DU registrar Tarun Das, AAP leader Ashutosh asked why was it that the marksheets issued to other students during the same time have the names and subjects of the applicants written by hand, while in Mr Modi’s marksheet name and subjects of the applicant are not handwritten.
“In marksheets available with us the marks obtained by the students are handwritten, whereas in the marksheet of Mr Modi, the marks are not handwritten. Why ” AAP leader Ashutosh questioned.
