AAP claims Rs 2,400 crore scam in BJP’s MCD

The Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday demanded a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in disbursement of pension by the city’s three civic bodies and alleging that the BJP councillors were involved.
AAP Delhi convener Dilip Pandey, in a letter to the chief minister, claimed the MCDs were involved in a gigantic scam, amounting to over Rs 2,400 crore, that extended benefits to ineligible persons over last decade.
Mr Pandey alleged that BJP councillors, including legislator Vijender Gupta’s wife Shobha Vijender, Pawan Singh Rathi and Bhumi Rachhoya were involved in misappropriation of funds.
“It is, therefore, prayed and requested that your office issue immediate directions to the CBI to exhaustively investigate the MCD pension issue and give its findings in a time-bound manner,” Mr Pandey wrote.
He also claimed that the wrongdoings had the “blessings” of top BJP leadership and the AAP had no option but to approach the CBI despite its “lack of trust” in the investigative agency.
The Delhi government recently constituted a committee to verify beneficiaries of pension schemes of the three civic bodies for aged, disabled and widows, before considering the formal takeover of these schemes from the MCDs.
