A group of around 90 persons, all residents of villages and colonies around Dhansa border in southwest Delhi, were detained as they tried to march towards the residence of Union minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday demanding extension of Metro services to their area.
The group demanded that a Metro station be built near the bus stand at Dhansa, for which they took out the march towards the residence of Mr Naidu, the Union minister of urban development, housing and urban poverty alleviation, in Lutyens’ Delhi.
“Under its third phase, the Delhi Metro is connecting Dwarka with Najafgarh. We demand that the line be extended till Dhansa. As per our knowledge, the survey for the same was done, but the idea is still awaiting approval,” said Jai Kumar, a resident of Saraswati Enclave in Dhansa.
The police was deployed on the approach road towards the minister’s residence and all 90 persons, including several women, were detained at the Parliament Street police station here at around 10 am. The detention was done under Section 144 of the CrPC, DCP (New Delhi) Jatin Narwal said.
Mr Kumar said a four-member delegation from the crowd was later allo-wed to meet the minister’s private secretary at his office. “It seems that the matter did not get approval because of a tussle between the Centre and Delhi government,” he added.
