60-year-old killed in a gang fight

A 60-year-old man was allegedly killed in a suspected gang war between two groups in southwest Delhi’s Dariyapur Khurd village on Sunday night.

The victim, identified as Janak Raj, was a resident of Dariyapur Khurd village, which is located adjacent to Najafgarh. The victim was father of gangster Rajesh, alias Mogli, who is serving a jail term after he was arrested for killing four persons in a gang war in January last year.

According to the police, four assailants on two motorcycles shot at the victim at 11 pm when he was sitting outside his house. He was immediately rushed to a local hospital where he was declared brought dead. His body has been sent for a post-mortem.

“Family members have filed a complaint at the Jaffarpur Kalan police station against four persons for killing Janak Raj. Four police teams have been formed to nab the assailants. His family members have alleged the attackers were the members of the Naveen Khati gang,” a senior police officer said.

The police suspects that the murder of Mogli’s father may be the fallout of a longstanding war between the gangs of Naveen Khati, who is also in jail, and Mogli’s associate Ravinder, alias Bholu, a proclaimed criminal wanted in Delhi and Haryana.

“We have registered a case of murder and a team has been formed to nab the culprits. Several persons have been questioned,” said DCP (southwest) R.A. Sanjeev.

Mogli was one of the several persons arrested in January last year for the murder of four youths of southwest Delhi’s Mitraon village whose charred bodies were found inside a car in Haryana.

While one of the deceased was involved in an attack on Mogli’s partner Bholu soon after his release from jail, another was the brother of Khati. Thereafter, members of the Khati gang allegedly shot dead Bholu’s uncle Rohtas. Four persons were later arrested in connection with the incident.
