A Delhi court on Friday convicted five persons in connection with the sensational murder case of a Kalkaji-based businessman who was shot dead over Rs 100-crore property and financial dispute in 2008.
The deceased businessman, Arun Gupta, was shot dead by contract killers, allegedly hired by his brother-in-law Dinesh Kumar Mittal through one of his employees, Mohammed Haroon. The court convicted Mittal, his employee Haroon, Junaid Khan, Mohammed Pravez and Akeel Ahmed, saying the prosecution had proved its case against them. The court, however, acquitted Afroz, alias Alam, one of the accused in the case. The court will pronounce the quantum of sentence for the convicts in the first week of June.
According to prosecution, Mittal’s father had gifted a farmhouse, Mittal Garden, worth Rs 100 crore to Gupta’s wife Sadhna. Mittal was unhappy with his father’s decision and had quarrelled with his sister and brother-in-law Arun Gupta. Mittal was also angry as he suspected that his sister and brother-in-law were trying to grab fixed deposits worth Rs 10.5 crore through his mother. In a fit of rage, Mittal decided to eliminate them. He discussed the matter with his employee Mohammed Haroon.
