4,227 cops to be added to city force by Centre
At a time when the Delhi police has been tasked with the implementation of the AAP government’s odd-even exercise in the capital, the Centre has sanctioned 4,227 additional posts up to the rank of sub-inspector for the force.
While the traffic police will be implementing the odd-even scheme, Delhi police personnel will also be on their toes to deal with any law and order issues.
Union home minister Rajnath Singh said that the augmentation of manpower in the Delhi police will improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the force.
The move is set to give equal impetus to law and order and crime investigation by the Delhi police, which has been facing a st-rain in its manpower with new challenges and increasing responsibilities in the capital.
The Union home ministry after getting approval from the department of expenditure in the finance minis-try has sanctioned 4,227 additional posts in the Delhi police which will be operationalised in two phases in 2016-17 and 2017-18.
“The additional posts are for the purpose of separation of crime investigation and law and order functions,” Mr Singh said.
He said that the augmentation of manpower in the Delhi police will improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the force. “It will, in turn, improve the quality of investigation, expedite filing of chargesheets in a professional manner and also accelerate the rate of disposal of the cases,” Mr Singh said.
“The newly-sanctioned posts will comprise of 1,409 sub-inspectors and assistant sub-inspectors, 1,409 head constables and 1,409 constables.
