A 32-year-old woman was strangled to death by her husband due to a domestic quarrel at their residence in Neb Sarai late on Mon-day night. The victim, ide-ntified as Seema, was married to Abhijeet (34), who works as an assistant at a tailor shop in Daryaganj. The couple used to fight frequently over some dom-estic issues, said the police.
On Monday night, there was a heated argument between the couple. At 11.30 pm, Abhijeet went to sleep with his six-year-old son and the victim went to sleep in another room. In the middle of night, around 2.30 am, Abhijeet in a fit of rage strangled his sleeping wife to death and fled from their residence.
“On Tuesday morning, when the victim’s mother reached the house to meet her daughter, she found the main gate open. She went inside and woke up her grandson and asked about his parents. When she went to awaken her daughter, she found her dead. She immediately informed her relatives and the police about the case,” said a senior police officer.
A PCR reached the spot and the victim’s body was sent for a post-mortem. Relatives and neighbours told the police that the couple used to fight often over monetary issues.
The accused, who fled with his wife’s mobile phone, is still on the run. “Two police teams have been formed to arrest the accused. An FIR under relevant sections of IPC has been filed. The case is under investigation. We will also question the child to get any clue about sequence of events during the Monday night discord,” added the police officer.
