So far, no arrests have been made and the possible motives behind the murders could be robbery or personal enmity, said the police. The tenants of the family were not found at home after the bodies were discovered at around 6.30 pm on Sunday. The victims have been identified as Saira (50), Mehrunissa (19), and Shabnam (9). Their decomposed bodies were found on two different floors of the house.
According to neighbours, a foul smell had been coming from the house in Brahmapuri Gali Number 23 since Saturday. However, when the stench turned unbearable, the neighbours informed the police.
Deputy commissioner of police A.K. Singla said the house was found locked when a police team visited.
“The lock was broken open and we found three bodies in the house. Shabnam and Mehrunissa were lying dead on the first floor and their mother Saira was found on the second floor. There were injury marks on the bodies on neck and arms,” said Dr Singla.
Abdul, a neighbour, said the three were last seen alive three days back and the police, too, added that prima facie the incident appears to be at least three to four days ago.
“We suspect that the throats of all three were slit,” said Dr Singla.
The family owned the house and had rented out the ground floor. The police is yet to gather details on the tenant(s), who are missing. Saira’s husband Munna had died two years ago and she had been living with her daughters in the house since then.
