Three traffic police personnel were sent to the district lines for allegedly extorting money from drivers of commercial vehicles plying in the city, the police said on Saturday.

A senior police official said that head constable Naresh Kumar and constables Kuldeep and Bhup Singh were caught by a special surveillance team of the Delhi police’s vigilance department in two separate operations.

In the first operation, conducted on December 7, the surveillance team found out that Naresh Kumar and Kuldeep allegedly used to confiscate papers of commercial vehicles at an intersection on Minto Road.

The duo used to ask the drivers to come back after dropping off their passengers and get their documents freed for a certain fee, the official said.

In the second operation, conducted on December 10, the vigilance team found that Bhup Singh allegedly used to collect “entry fee” of '300 from drivers of commercial vehicles near the roundabout at Mandi House without issuing them any receipt for the same, said the official.

“Departmental enquiries have been initiated against the three officials, who have been sent to district lines,” said the senior police officials, adding, “We would like to warn all the police officers that any corrupt activity will not be tolerated.”
