A 27-year-old property dealer was shot dead by an unidentified man in southwest Delhi’s Dwarka Sector-7 on Monday afternoon.
Nikhil Kumar, a resident of Mahavir Enclave, near Palam, was standing in front of Maxfort School around 1.30 pm and was having a long conversation with the alleged killer, when all of a sudden the accused pulled out his gun and shot him at point blank range, the police said.
“We have some definite clues about the murder on which we are working on. The victim and the accused were seen in a long conversation before the latter pulled out his pistol and shot him,’’ said R.A. Sanjeev, DCP (southwest).
After the incident, a PCR van took Nikhil to nearby Ayushman Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
The victim has two criminal cases, including one of murder, registered against him and according to police sources, apart from being a property dealer, he was a known gangster. “We are looking at the case from the angle of gang rivalry. Nikhil’s influence over the property market in Dwarka and Palam had started to grow, which perhaps didn’t go down well with the existing gang leaders of the area. This murder could a result of it. Apart from that, a personal rivalry or sudden provocation could also be a reason behind the murder,’’ said an official.
Police are confident of nabbing the culprit soon and a manhunt has been launched.
Nikhil’s call details are also being analyzed to find out the people who were last in touch with him.Police are also talking to the family members and friends of Nikhil to zero in on the killer.
