2 shot dead at toll plaza in Badarpur
A 60-year-old cashier and a 40-year-old security guard of a toll plaza were shot dead by four armed assailants in South Delhi’s Badarpur on Sunday morning.
A senior police official said that the incident occurred at about 7 am at Goyal Complex in Badarpur. “The assailants wanted to rob cash, but they fled with a bag containing only a laptop,” the official said.
The police said the deceased have been identified as Manmohan Sharma, the cashier, and Mahipal, the security guard. Both used to work for a private firm which used to collect toll tax for MCD at Badarpur border. The firm had taken around six rooms on rent at Goyal Complex where it used to keep cash and other documents.
“The employees also used to rest over there. On Sunday, Sharma and Mahipal, both were having a siesta in one of the rooms, when the armed assailants struck there. Before they could understand anything, the assailants started firing indiscriminately. Sharma and Mahipal sustained gun wounds and collapsed on the floor while the assailants fled with a bag,” the police said.
The officials said they got a call of the incident and a PCR was immediately sent to the crime scene. Sharma and Mahipal were removed to Apollo Hospital where they succumbed during the course of treatment.
A police source said that the assailants, who struck at Goyal Complex, had conducted a recee before executing their plan. The source said that cash around Rs 2.5 crore was kept in the cashier room to which the assailants wanted to rob.
A case under relevant sections of IPC has been registered at the Badarpur police station.
