The Delhi police on Wednesday recovered three highly sophisticated firearms, including one US Army pistol and a foreign-made laser light equipped gun, from two interstate gangsters involved in a series of murders in Haryana and Delhi.

The arrested accused, identified as Gyanendra alias Gadku and Rajesh Dahiya, are members of the Mandhoti gang that is involved in a three-decade rivalry with the Sunda gang.

“In 2011, Gadku killed four people. The two men were arrested on June 4 from the southwestern outskirts of Delhi following information that they were trying to take shelter in the national capital,” Ravindra Yadav, joint commissioner of police (crime branch), said.

“A Taurus pistol fitted with laser light, one US Army pistol, and a carbine along with 66 cartridges were recovered from the possession of the two gangsters,” Mr Yadav said. The Taurus pistol costs anywhere between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 40 lakh and is not sold in India.

He added that the police is interrogating them to ascertain the source through which the two gangsters had procured the foreign-made sophisticated weapons.

“The two have been misleading us by giving names of different persons from whom they sourced the foreign-made weapons. We are questioning some more people,” said Mr Yadav.

The police has not ruled out the possibility that the guns were smuggled to India from Pakistan.
