The Delhi police has arrested two persons for the murder of property dealer Kailash Gupta and for injuring four other persons, including his son, in northeast Delhi’s Bhajanpura.

The two accused, identified as Sanjiv Tyagi (35) and Sunil Pehalwan (26), were running a gang in the National Capital Region and used to extort money from property dealers, deputy commissioner of police (special cell) Pramod Kushwah said.

“Kailash Gupta was a complainant and eyewitness in the murder of his elder son Vishal, who was killed by Pehalwan’s gang members. The arrested persons were putting pressure on Gupta to agree to a compromise and withdraw the case,” Mr Kushwah said.

In another case, which Gupta had reported to the police, Sunil Pehalwan along with his accomplices had forcibly entered Gupta’s house and threatened him to agree to a compromise in the murder case of his son Vishal and had also fired at him.

As the murder of Kailash Gupta had generated fear in the minds of locals in the area, a team of special cell had been tasked to identify the perpetrators and to bring them to book.

The team deployed sources and mounted technical surveillance and hideouts of the suspects were raided.

On Wednesday, on a tip-off, a team led by inspector Sanjay Gupta was deployed in Dilshad Garden to apprehend the criminals.

They were arrested after a shootout with the police at about 10.45 pm.
