The Delhi police arrested two people of a gang and recovered around 1,619 mobile phones and tablets from them. One car worth Rs 55 lakh was also recovered from their possession. The accused were involved in stealing containers loaded with costly electronic goods in South Delhi, the police said on Friday.
“The accused, Ravi Kumar and Rajat Sehrawat, were arrested on Thursday in Mahipalpur and police recovered 1,619 mobile phones and tablets from their possession,” said Nupur Prasad, additional DCP (South).
The accused were arrested in connection with the police investigation of a complaint by transporter Ravi Sehrawat that his driver Subodh had failed to deliver the container of mobile phones and tablets to Delhi on the date of delivery and his phone was switched off.
The truck was found abandoned in Chhattarpur by the police. The police received information that the stolen containers were taken away from the truck in smaller vehicles and zeroed in on Ravi, who worked as a driver.
During interrogation, Ravi and Rajat told the police that Amit, Virender and Sharavan are the masterminds behind the thefts. They also revealed that they used to offer money to drivers of different cargo companies for leaving their vehicles containing boxes of mobile phones and tabs at isolated places, added the officer. “Amit is a diploma holder in civil engineering,” said the additional DCP.
