In an incident that brought back the horror of December 16 gangrape case, a 14-year-old girl was allegedly abducted when she was on her way to school and later gangraped by six youth, including her neighbour, inside a van at Dichaon village in Najafgarh area of southwest Delhi. The accused were later chased down by a vigilant traffic police official.
According to the police, five accused, identified as Rahul (19), Suraj (19), Sandeep (21), Ramesh (27) and Narender (20), have been arrested but their accomplice, Aman (23), is still absconding.
Deputy commissioner of police (west district) Pushpendra Kumar said that when the girl was on her way to school around 7.30 am on Thursday, Rahul, along with Aman and Sandeep waylaid her in West Delhi’s Jai Vihar area, near her residence, and allegedly pushed her inside a white Tata Sumo van. Suraj, Ramesh and Narendra were also present inside the car.
“The girl knew Rahul, her neighbour, but could not identify the others, who later turned out to be residents of the same locality,” said a senior police officer.
“The accused took the girl to an isolated area at Dichaon village near Najafgarh and all of them raped her inside the vehicle. When she objected and tried to scream, they also allegedly threatened to kill her.”
The DCP said that after this, they took her to Hiran Kudna village where they were intercepted by ASI Om Prakash (traffic) under the Mundka police station. More force was called to the spot and the police team rescued the girl and managed to overpower all the accused except Aman, who fled the spot. The police also impounded the vehicle in which the accused allegedly raped the girl. The van is registered in the name of a private enterprise in Gurgaon and bears a taxi number plate. Narender was its driver, the police said, adding, “Sandeep al-so works as a driver, while Suraj is a student.”
“A case of abduction, gangrape, criminal intimidation and hatching a criminal conspiracy under the IPC and relevant sections of Pocso Act has been registered in connection with the incident. Efforts are on to nab Aman,” the senior police officer said.
“Teams have been dispatched to several location to find Aman, who is believed to be hiding near the Haryana border,” the officer added.
