Recently released snippets from the WOD Magazine reveal what the judges had to say about the dance crew that made India proud

It’s been a while since the Desi Hoppers did India proud by winning 1st place and the title of ‘Crowd Favourite’ at the World of Dance Finals in Los Angeles, an international Hip Hop competition where crews from the world over battled it out for the win. Adding another feather to their cap from the same victory, however, is the recently released WOD Magazine that documents the competition and has brought to light some of the things the judges had to say about the Indian crew in particular.

Amel Calvario, one of the judges at the WOD Finals who is the founder of Kaba Modern and KM Legacy, President of Culture Shock LA and Culture Shock International and a member of KINJAZ, has been quoted as saying, “Desi Hoppers really stood out as original. What was entertaining about them is that they incorporated and fused their cultural roots in their choreography and music choices, so it really drew the audience in and felt refreshingly new.”

Another judge, Matt Stefanina, an accomplished choreographer with more than four million YouTube subscribers, added, “They (Desi Hoppers) had such a unique style with the Bollywood [and] animation. The fact that they were able to keep the crowd into it and create so many different formations with only seven dancers was really impressive.”

Due to the absence of a WOD Qualifier event in India, the Desi Hoppers, led by Shantanu Maheshwari, Nimit Kotian and Macedon Dmello were chosen via video submission to represent India at the international competition. The group consists of seven dancers hailing from diverse backgrounds.
