Auckland

: When the Australian cricket team is battered, it draws attention from all quarters. When New Zealand thrashed the world champions in the first One Day International (ODI) by 159 runs here on Tuesday, Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin kept surfing television channels to catch the action.

But the Trans-Tasman series is not being telecast in India.

The match that started at 2 pm local time (6.30 AM IST) only had online streaming of which Ashwin wasn’t aware; surprised at the ignorance of Indian television channels, he tweeted: “The NZ vs AUS game is not live in India ”

The series holds importance for it also happens to be New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum’s swansong.

McCullum, fondly called Baz, smashed a 29-ball 44 which included three sixes and five boundaries and also crossed 6,000 runs in ODIs.
