Lot to learn from Sehwag: Anureet Singh

The Indian Premier League has been a breeding ground for budding cricketers. It has given them a platform to showcase their talent on a global stage. Anureet Singh of Kings XI Punjab is one such, who has earned praise in a short span of time.

Anureet started playing for Kings XI in 2014 and is ready to help his team earn the elusive IPL title.

“Preparions for this season have been on quite well like always. We are focused on all areas of the game,” the lanky pacer told this paper.

“For instance, to be able to adapt to match situations, we have been playing practice games and are benefiting a lot from this as we have been able to find out our weaknesses. We are working together to turn our weaknesses into strengths.”

With cricketers like Mitchell Johnson, Kyle Abott, Mohit Sharma and Sandeep Sharma in the squad, a lesser experienced seamer may find it difficult to make the XI but not Anureet, who says “I think it largely depends on the conditions and the wicket that a particular XI is formed and that’s the reason why I think I fit well in the side.

“All the bowlers have something different to offer to the team, so the team needs me too.”

The 27-year-old believes that David Miller will prove a good leader of the side.

“He has been around for a considerable period of time now and has played well for KXIP. So he has plenty of experience that can come good for the side. He is a very good player and I am sure he will be a good leader too,” Anureet added.

On legendary batsman Virender Sehwag being the side’s mentor, Anureet says, “He is very confident as a guiding figure like he was during his playing days. The players, especially the youngsters have learnt a lot from him. He is an advantage to the team.

“I have played under him (in domestic cricket). He is like a brother to youngsters like me”.

Anureet is all praise for speedster Mitch Johnson, crediting the Aussie for a lot of his success.

“I think it is because of of him and his advisory inputs that I have been able to increase my bowling speed as compared to the last season,” he said
