Mumbai
: A beleaguered Lalit Modi is all set to make a comeback as President of Rajasthan Cricket Association. The tainted former Indian Premier League (IPL) commissioner, who was suspended by the BCCI for financial irregularities in 2013, will enjoy numerical superiority in the 33-member RCA after the Amin Pathan rival faction withdrew its no-confidence motion against Modi and his team on Tuesday.
The RCA has always seen a power struggle within both the Modi and Amin faction with dramatic twists and turns in the last two years. Nine months ago, BJP leader and RCA vice-president Pathan served a no-confidence motion against Modi and his faction. The former official has now done a U-turn in front of a retired judge to pave the way for Modi's return.
According to reports, Pathan said his action was -"in the interest of cricket in Rajasthan,-" but has also hinted at political pressure. The BCCI will not pay any heed to Modi's return after Board led by former President N Srinivasan suspended Rajasthan for electing the banned Modi as its president.
The BCCI formed an ad-hoc committee to run the RCA's cricket affairs. Pathan was serving as the 'acting' RCA president till Tuesday's 'compromise.'
