Kaushik hundred in Modern School win

Madhav Kaushik on Monday became the first player to score a century in the USA Pears-Daredevils School Cup Twenty20 cricket tournament this season. His 102 (62 balls, 5x4, 5x6) helped Modern School, Barakhamba Road, rally from 17/2 to 192/4. They then coasted to a 95-run win over St Mary’s Public School, Neb Sarai, restricting the opposition to 85/8. Kaushik dominated the 118-run third wicket stand in 12.1 overs along with Swapnil Bist (35, 30 balls, 4x4) and then collected 57 (35 balls) for the fourth wicket in the company of Vijayant Sahu (22 not out, 17 balls, 1x6). In Group K, St Sophia Public School thrashed Air Force Bal Bharti School by 103 runs, to score their second straight win. Left-arm spinner Prashant Singh clinched 3/20 as Air Force Bal Bharti could only manage 91/8 in pursuit of 195. Earlier, St Sophia School rode on an 105-run opening stand between Bharat Kunwar (45) and Sahil Tyagi (47) to post 194/8 in 20 overs. MRV School, Dwarka, stayed in the race for a berth in the next stage with a facile eight-wicket win over St. Michael’s Senior Secondary School in Group B. Their match against Cambridge Foundation on October 12 assumes knockout proportions as Ganga International School look set to take top place in the Group.
