The battle between the rebel West Indies cricketers and the board-backed players took an ugly turn on Saturday when two of their stars — Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard — were involved in a tussle during an Indian Premier League game between Gujarat Lions and Mumbai Indians in Kanpur.
The duo almost came to blows. Facing his first ball, Pollard stepped down the track to block Bravo’s delivery. However, Bravo kept running in his follow-through and shoulder charged his countryman. Pollard was seen holding his bat above his head as if he will smash Bravo’s head.
While Pollard looked on, Bravo went walking to his fielding position with a smile on his face.
Bravo was on Sunday fined 50 per cent of his match fee for breaching the code of conduct for breaching the code of conduct. “Bravo admitted the level 2 offence (Article 2.2.7) for inappropriate and deliberate physical contact with a player in the course of play during a match,” an IPL statement said.
“For level 2 breaches of IPL's code of conduct, the match referee’s decision is final and binding.”
Earlier, tension flared up after Pollard and Sunil Narine’s two-year exile from international cricket was ended by the West Indies board on Thursday when the duo were included in the ODI squad for tri-series, involving Australia and South Africa.
