Eden Gardens to host World T20 match if Pakistan come

Ending weeks of uncertainty, the India-vs-Pakistan World T20 match on March 19 was on Wednesday shifted from Dharamsala to Kolkata over security concerns. The announcement came after the Pakistan cricket team delayed their departure to India, saying they were awaiting security clearance from the Pakistan government.

“The decision to relocate the match has been made for security reasons. The concerns initially arose following alleged public comments recently reported by the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh warning of demonstrations and attempts to disrupt the peaceful conduct of the match,” the ICC said.

PCB chief Shaharyar Khan “appreciated” the decision, but gave no final word on their travel plans. Khan said they were waiting for a “final security assurance from the Indian government first”.
