Pointing out the global sports betting market was worth over $400 billion, the Justice Lodha committee has advised the Centre to enact a law legalising betting in all sports in India, including cricket.
In its final report, it said many who had deposed before it felt it would serve both the game and the economy if it were legalised, as in Britain and elsewhere. But if betting is legalised in cricket, betting by administrators, players, match and team officials, owners, etc should continue to remain prohibited.
