Ajit Chandila handed life ban by BCCI, Hiken Shah suspended for 5 years

Chandila was earlier acquitted along with Sreesanth and 41 other accused in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal.

: Ajit Chandila, the tainted Rajasthan Royals cricketer involved in the IPL spot-fixing case (2013), has been banned for life by the BCCI Disciplinary Committee, headed by president Shashank Manohar, on Monday.

Mumbai cricketer Hiken Shah has been suspended for five years for breaching the board's Anti-Corruption Code.

He was accused of making a corrupt approach to a player during IPL.

Chandila and Shah appeared in person before the Committee on December 24 and were given time till January 4 to file a written response to the charges against them. The infamous IPL controversy broke out during the sixth edition of the Indian Premier League, during which Rajasthan Royals cricketers Sreesanth, Chandila and Chavan were accused of tarnishing the image of the game.

Special Cell of the Delhi Police had named 42 accused in the case in its charge sheet out of whom, six are absconding.

Earlier, the players were granted bail due to lack of evidence after the Delhi Police arrested the trio in May 2013.

Underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and his aide Chhota Shakeel were also among the 42 accused in a 6000-page long chargesheet filed by the Delhi Police.
