Beleaguered businessman Vijay Mallya has been declared a proclaimed offender by a special PMLA court here on a plea by the enforcement directorate (ED) in connection with its money laundering probe agai-nst him in an alleged bank loan default case.
“The ED application is allowed and proclamation is issued against Vijay Mallya,” ordered special judge P.R. Bhavke.
The agency had moved the court to issue an ord-er under Section 82 CrPC and term Mr Mallya a proclaimed off-ender as he has “multiple” arrest warrants pe-nding against him incl-uding a non-bailable wa-rrant under the Preve-ntion of Money Laund-ering Act (PMLA).
According to the ED, there are multiple arrest warrants pending aga-inst Mr Mallya in various cases like that of cheque bounce and he is also wanted in a money laundering case.
