Riding high on the success of the Tata Tiago, launched on April 6, Tata Motors is seemingly contemplating a crossover on the Tiago platform. The recently launched hatchback received 20000 bookings within two months. The revelation was made back in February, at the 2016 Auto Expo, when Tata Motors unveiled the Tata Zica Crossover, named Zica Aktiv Cross, to the public, from its stall. The rechristening takes place due to the negative sentiments the name has attracted, after the discovery of the new virus that causes fever and rashes, communicated via mosquito bites. Tata said that the name change was meant to show empathy to those affected by the virus. After a name change contest, Tata Zica named the hatchback as the Tata Tiago. So, with the new name, it is speculated that Tata might carry over the idea of a Crossover with the Tiago as well. The Crossover may also be named as the Kite 4 Crossover. The new crossover might sport modified front and rear bumpers with matte cladding and bash plates underneath, a sporty vinyl hood, new alloys, contrasting roof rails, black roofing, etc. Tata Motors aims to boost sales with this new crossover, and compete with the likes of the Hyundai Active i20 and the Toyota Liva Cross, though the pricing of the Tiago Crossover Kite 4 is expected to be much lower than these crossovers. Typical of a crossover, with a high ground clearance, the exterior will sport the more practical look of the Tiago, while the engines may also be similarly powered as with the Tiago. While Fiat, Toyota and Volkswagen already cater to the Crossover market with their Avventura, Etios Cross and Cross Polo respectively, Chevrolet might also launch the Beat Activ Cross in 2017, which would most probably compete with Tata’s Kite 4 crossover, at its price range.
