There is an estimated one crore unoccupied rooms across India in which people have made real estate investments and Stayzilla has launched a new app that will enable people to convert this investment into incomes whilst increasing the number of rooms available at low cost.
Stayzilla, the largest hybrid managed marketplace for Stays in India, said there is a shortage of 10 lakh hotel rooms per night today. In 2014, Indians took 1.2 billion overnight trips which translates into 2 billion room nights, counting two nights per trip. Only 350 million people stay on transacted stay i.e. hotels/lodges and the rest have to stay with friends or relatives. “We want to provide a number of quality stay options to the new breed of travellers,” said Yogendra Vasupal, founder and chief executive officer, Stayzilla.
