Reliance Jio made its debut on Sunday, the 83rd birthday of RIL founder Dhirubhai Ambani, but its services will be available presently only to Reliance employees and friends so that they can spread the word.
Explaining the five-fold qualities of Jio at a meeting with his employees and others, RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani said it’s digital life, connected intelligence, simple, smart and secure, and Jio together and Jio life is beautiful. Jio digital life is an entire ecosystem that allows Indians to live the digital life to the fullest, he said.
“This ecosystem consists of devices, broadband networks, powerful applications and services, distribution to every doorstep in India particularly in small towns and villages both in the hand and home. It comes with 24x7 support and has been put in place with the support of our partners,” he said.
Further there are two kinds of intelligences in the world – machine intelligence and human imagination. “Now, combine the power of six billion brains with all the computers in the world — that is what I call connected intelligence. Imagine the power that we will be putting in the hands of common Indians, if we give them a smartphone in their hands and use an always-available, broadband connection to link them to the power of the Internet. This is connected intelligence and Jio is the connected intelligence,” he explains.
Jio is not just about technical brute force but it’s about doing things in a smart, simple and secure way. Digital technologies, Ambani says, gives us an opportunity not just to do things a little bit better, but to reimagine how we do things. What used to take hours for skilled people, is just a few clicks on everybody’s mobile. That’s smart.”
He said his mother Kokilaben at 83, does a smart phone better than he does — “That’s simplicity.” Security is inbuilt. And lastly Jio is bringing people together; inspiring people to join a movement.
