Giving major relief to taxpayers, the income-tax department Sunday operationalised a facility for e-filing of the first appeal before a tax officer. The e-filing of income-tax returns for assessment year 2016-17 was also launched for a select category of entities and individuals.
The two new forms are ITR-1 (Sahaj), meant for individuals having income from salary and interest; and ITR-4S (Sugam), meant for individuals, HUF, partnership firms having income from presumptive business.
The I-T department also provided an “online calculator” for income-tax filers to do an easy check and obtain their annual tax liability aounts.
The facility of filing the appeal form, like filing income-tax returns, can be done using a digital signature from now onwards, while the electronic verification (EVC) facility for this, using Aadhaar, mobile numbers and email IDs will be activated soon on the income-tax department’s official Web portal.
In the new e-form, an applicant or taxpayer seeking to file an appeal against an assessing officer’s order has been given an avenue to append “Statement of Facts” in 1,000 words and furnish the grounds of appeal in another 100 words. The department is also allowing the taxpayer to upload any documentary evidence.
