New Delhi: Centre has slammed a section of petroleum pump association, mostly located in South, for planning to keep petrol pumps close on Sundays.

“Such closure of petrol pumps by a small section of dealers will lead to inconvenience to general public,” said a tweet by petroleum ministry.

The tweet was later on retweeted by petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Consortium of Indian Petroleum Dealers, who allegedly want their commission enhanced have claimed that they are planning to keep petrol pump closed on Sundays after Prime Minister’s appeal of not using fuel for a day to help cut India’s import dependence.

However, petroleum ministry clarified that PM in Mann Ki Baat appealed to people of India not to use fuel once a week and not to dealers to close their pumps on Sundays.

The ministry said it neither endorses nor approves of move by small section of dealers to keep their petrol pumps closed on Sundays.
