Korean automaker Hyundai began its Indian odyssey with the small hatchback Santro, which was quite successful. With time, the company built up a reputation for delivering extremely well-packaged smaller offerings, with the likes of the Grand i10. But for the past 12-18 months, Hyundai has been more into launching new and more premium products like the Creta SUV. Recently, it launched the D-segment offering, the Elantra, in the Indian market and that has bolstered its image further as a premium carmaker by receiving a decent number of bookings since its launch in August.
The car has received bookings of more than 1,100 units and 18,000 enquiries within six weeks of its launch, informed the country’s second largest carmaker in a statement. Following this, senior vice president (sales and marketing, Hyundai Motors India Ltd (HMIL), Rakesh Srivastava said that the company is ‘overwhelmed’ by the response to the Elantra.
“All round excellence and great experience are the true expressions that are associated with the All New Elantra. We thank our customers and reaffirm our commitment to the customers by reducing the waiting period for Elantra so as to love and enjoy new world-class products,” he added.
The Chennai-based manufacturer’s first new offering this year, the sixth-gen Elantra has received a complete makeover with Hyundai’s new Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language. At the heart of things too, the sedan has been mounted with an all-new 1999cc petrol mill that produces 152PS of power and 192Nm of torque.
The diesel, on the other hand, is the familiar 1.6-litre diesel that has been re-tuned to churn out 128Ps and 260Nm. Both engines come with an option of a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Prices for the car start at Rs 12.99 lakh for the base variant (ex-showroom, Delhi).
