The Hero MotoCorp will have to discontinue quite a few of its models mostly due to payment of royalties to the Honda for sharing powertrains, after their grand historical alliance came to an end. Now, the Hero wants to discontinue the Maestro scooter, which has been selling in decent numbers.
Known for commuter motorcycles, the Maestro happened to be the top selling scooter for the Hero. However, an update in the form of the Maestro Edge has had the sales of the Maestro go down, since last year, when the Edge was launched. Further, the royalties paid to the Honda isn’t also desirable for the Hero for the engine sourced from the Japanese manufacturer.
The Hero too has officially confirmed that the Maestro is to be discontinued, when the Indian two-wheeler maker launched the Hero Achiever 150 last week. The discontinuation will also be imminent and will likely happen very soon.
The Hero has built the Maestro Edge indigenously on its own but the Maestro is powered by an engine that does duty in the Honda activa. So, the Hero has had to pay royalty to the Honda.
So, the Hero has decided to discontinue the original Maestro and continue with the Maestro Edge. The engine of the latter model is tuned to deliver a slightly higher power and a lower torque than the previous model.
The Edge also has better features than the Maestro with the mobile charger port and boot light in the under seat storage. The anti-theft immobilizer and the external fuel filling lid in the rear are the other highlights.
Prices beginning at Rs. 49,700 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Hero Maestro Edge offers a mileage of 65.8 kmpl, all of which has made the Edge a valuable option for scooter lovers.
