China-based mobile handset maker Coolpad plans to set up an R&D centre in India. Coolpad India chief executive officer (CEO) Syed Tajuddin on Monday said, “We are planning R&D centre in India and it may come up in Bengaluru. The financial details of the project will be revealed in December.”
The company had in October announced plans to invest $300 million in India and it may invest $100 million in setting up its R&D centre. “One-third of the investment could be made in the R&D centre,” said Mr Tajuddin. It has five R&D centres across the world.
He was speaking at launch of its smartphone, Coolpad Note 3, which will be sold exclusively at Amazon.in. The phone is equipped with a fingerprint scanner and priced at Rs 8,999.
