New Delhi: State run BSNL has formed an alliance with auyrveda consumer goods company Patanjali to offer co-branded SIM cards. The move can stir up the current low tariff plans of the incumbents including Reliance Jio as BSNL is well versed in matching the Mukesh Ambani upstart’s free voice and cheap data combos.

Both BSNL and Patanjali are in revenue sharing agreement for this alliance.

Patanjali Yoga Pitha’s head Baba Ramdev launched a Swadeshi Samriddhi SIM cards in alliance with BSNL where the users will be able to avail unlimited calls, 2GB data and 100 SMS by making a recharge of just Rs 144 with a validity period of a month. It is available to all.

On the 2GB data per day offers, Airtel recently launched a recharge pack worth Rs 449 that offers 140GB of 3G/ 4G data for a period of 70 days. Reliance Jio offers 2GB of high-speed 4G per day data for a period of 84 days under its Rs 448 plan. BSNL’s offer will be comparatively the cheapest on the 2GB segment offering 60 GB for 30 days at Rs 144.

The per day 2GB component is the most price elastic slice of the prepaid mobile segment and is fought hard by telcos to grab customers as this is mass base tariff plan.

The card also comes with the medical and life insurance covers of Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 5 lakh respectively and the offer is available in the market.

“We are delighted to partner with the country’s growing brand. We are confident this partnership will add immense value to both organisations and benefit India. We look forward in strengthening this alliance,” Anupam Shrivastava, CMD, BSNL said on the tie-up.

The Rs 144-plan offers unlimited voice calls across India (except Mumbai and Delhi circles). It provides 2GB of data and 100 SMS messages for a validity period of 30 days and also offers free roaming as is the case with BSNL’s all other plans.

There are two more denominations of the plans – Rs 792 plan is for 180-days and the Rs 1584 plan has a one-year validity.
