“The department indicated that more than 96 per cent of uncollected demand is difficult to recover in FY 2014-15,” said a CAG report tabled in the Parliament.
“The uncollected de-mand is rising despite clear provisions in the (Income Tax) Act to enforce collection and recovery of outstanding demand viz attachment and sale of asses-sess’ movable and im-movable property, ap-pointment of a receiver for the management of assesses’ properties and imprisonment,” said the report.
