Wipro chairman Azim Premji, who donated Rs 27,514 crore for education, has been named the “Most Generous Indian” for the third year running, followed by Infosys founders Nandan Nilek-ani and Narayana Murthy in the second and third slots respectively.

Interestingly Mr Premji is the third richest billionaire in the country whilst Mr Nilekani and Mr Nara-yana Murthy don’t even figure in the Forbes list of the ten richest billionaires in 2015.

The richest billionaire Mukesh Ambani with wealth of $19.1 billion, figures sixth in the Hurun India Philanthropy List, donating a modest Rs 345 crore towards health. This amounts to a mere 1.25 per cent of what Mr Premji has given. The Wipro founder’s wealth is estimated to be $15.9 billion, over $3 billion less than the Reliance chairman’s.

Mr Ambani lags far behind the Nilekani family who donated Rs 2,404 crore and also the Narayana Murthy family who donated Rs1,322 crore.

Others in the top ten include, K. Dinesh ranked fourth, who donated Rs1,238 crore and does not figure in the top ten richest billionaires (TTBL).

He is followed by HCL’s Shiv Nadar, who is the sixth top billionaire, is ranked fifth with Rs 535 crore in donations.

The Sunny Varkey family is ranked seventh with a donation of Rs 326 crore. But it does not figure the top 10 rich list.

Ronnie Screwvala is eighth top donor with Rs158 crore, the Rahul Bajaj family stands at ninth in the list with Rs 139 crore donation and the fifth top richest in India, Pallonji Mistry, has been ranked 10th top donor with Rs 96 crore philanthropy.
