Renault India has announced that it will launch its latest crossover, the Captur, on November 6, 2017. With the Captur, Renault is planning to compete with the more premium SUVs, like the Hyundai Creta, in the Rs 12-15 lakh price bracket.

Renault Captur

The Renault Captur shares some bits with the Duster. It uses the same platform and has the same engines - a 1.5-litre diesel and a 1.5-litre petrol. Look at it and it has very little relation to the Duster, though there are typical Renault design touches everywhere.

The Renault Captur wants you to know that it is a premium SUV. On the top of the line ‘Platine’ variant, the Captur gets all-LED headlamps, ‘Sparkle’ LED indicators (dynamic indicators like modern Audis), 17-inch alloy wheels, LED elements in the taillamp, a two-tone paint job etc.

Inside, the dual-tone (white-and-black) theme with quilted leather upholstery, copper highlights around the centre console, A/C vents and lower centre console, cool-looking analogue-digital instrument cluster, rear A/C vents etc. continue the premium theme. While dual airbags will be offered as standard across the range, six airbags will be fitted to the top-of-the-line variant.

While the Captur shares its platform with the Duster, its dimensions are different. Compared to the Hyundai Creta, the Captur is longer, wider and has more wheelbase - which means more space for passengers and luggage. The engines and transmission will be familiar to those who have driven the Duster.

Renault Captur

The Captur is offered with either a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine developing 106PS of maximum power and 142Nm of peak torque or a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine developing 110PS of maximum power and 240Nm of peak torque. Both engines will be paired to manual transmissions only, for now. The petrol engine is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission while the diesel is paired to a 6-speed manual transmission. Power will be sent to the front wheels only. Yes, the Captur will not be available with an AWD drivetrain like the Duster.

Prices of the Captur will be announced on November 6, 2017, stay tuned to ZigWheels for the prices and other details as and when they are announced.
