Goa health dept to introduce Motorcycle ambulances In Goa
Twenty two-wheeler ambulances would be procured in July and would be pressed into services immediately.

Accidents are hard to predict, and when they occur, the initial moments are quite significant for the victims. The period is even referred as the ‘Golden Hour’ in medical terms. To make sure the victims receive proper medication and care during the initial phase, Goa health department is going to introduce two-wheeler ambulances, according to a report from Press Trust of India (PTI).
The state’s health minister, Vishwajit Rane, reviewed the functioning of ambulances which work under the emergency contact ‘108’. Later, in an interview with PTI, he said, “Twenty two-wheeler ambulances would be procured in July and would be pressed into services immediately. Paramedics will ride the two-wheeler ambulances mounted with essential medical equipment which can reach the accident or casualty spots quickly. Facilities like oxygen cylinder and injections which are required to stabilise the patient would be mounted on these two-wheelers.”
When compared to cars, two-wheelers have the advantage of cutting through traffic and it is not the first time they have been used for emergency services. Karnataka was the first state in the country to bring about the initiative of two-wheeler ambulances. Last year, the fire department in Mumbai got a customised Royal Enfield Himalayan as a first response unit.
Apart from bike ambulances, Goa is also set to get 10 all-new, four-wheeler ambulances with dedicated equipment to stabilise patients suffering from cardiac arrest. “The cardiology department of Goa Medical College is preparing a protocol required to be followed while treating such patients in these new ambulances,” added Rane.
